24 1/2 week checkup
Let's see...blood pressure 108/52, gained 5 lbs. (just love being accountable for my holiday weight gain!), baby's heart rate was 135 (lowest yet), and we had some discussion of delivery plans.

All along I've been seeing my doctor's nurse practitioner. She's great so I have no complaints. However, the doc is the one who's going to deliver my baby so I'd like to get his opinion, based on my records, of whether he recommends a repeat c-section or a Vaginal Birth After C-section (VBAC). The NP recommended that I make my next appointment with the doc so he could weigh in, but she told me what she figured he'd say. She thinks he'll recommend the repeat c-section for the usual reasons, increased risk of uterine rupture with VBAC, safer for mom and baby, etc. I figure doctors always prefer c-section where they can more easily mitigate the risks. I'm considering a tubal ligation so that's one plus for the c-section side. It can all be done at the same time.

On the minus side I just read a People magazine article that freaked me out about c-sections. A woman had a c-section and up and died the next day from a blood clot to her lung. I know the risks are minimal, but, damn, why did I have to pick up that magazine???

It doesn't matter anyway, I'm freaked out about giving birth by either option. Just wake me up when it's over. (But then what about if I never wake up? Arrrrrgh!) Maybe I should take up the local hypnotist's offer to put me under hypnosis to cure me of the freak-outs over birthing. Now do you see where Emma gets her worrying ways?
